Their (and mine) ancestors used to do this a long time ago. Maybe you could do a little research and find out what kind of things they do with the whale. Or maybe attend a ceremony and see how beautiful the ceremonies are. My mother is 69 and she attended the ceremony in Neah Bay. She has a lot of friends in Neah Bay also. J Calderon

However, the overriding faith of my ancestors was based on respect for all living things. If the Makah could demonstrate that they have the ability to hunt successfully and that the hunt is necessary for their survival (or even for the survival of religious ceremonies), I would support their right to this hunt. But using the hunting of any species for commercial gain is directly contradictory to the traditions they seek to uphold.

Do not kill them whether they are endangered or not. There can be wonderful alternatives to killing animals in order to worship. Please find another way to honor your ceremony other than killing whales.
